At the moment the tags in iPhoto are freeform, which means they don’t have meaning. It should support tagging people (in the same way as Facebook) which can link to your address book, places/locations which could then integrate with Google Maps/Earth or other visualisations. You could then navigate your photos in time and space and through people. It would also nicely integrate to a number of web services that support this extra meta-data.
